Welcome online to the
Royal Naval Association
Cyprus..
We meet once a month, with the
exception of August, in the Garrison Officers' Mess, Episkopi;
usually at 1900 for 1930.
Meetings take the form of updates
on the business of the Branch with inputs from the committee
members and the Royal Navy. There are speaker's presentations on
interesting aspects of the Service and related topics plus a
Raffle on completion. The meetings are conducted in a light
hearted atmosphere enjoyed by all.
Anyone may join who is in
sympathy with the aims of the Royal Naval Association namely:
UNITY, LOYALTY, PATRIOTISM and COMRADESHIP.
Full members (shipmates) are
those who have served in all ranks and specialisations of the
Royal Naval Service including the RM, WRNS, QARRNS and the
RESERVES.
Associate shipmates are those who
have not served in uniform but include wives, widows and anyone
such as those who have worked with the Service and have the
above stated sympathies.
Until 2007 the Cyprus Branch of
the RNA was the largest outside the United Kingdom with the
exception of that in New South Wales. In that year it was felt
that a second branch should be commissioned to cater for
shipmates living in the Larnaca and Famagusta areas and so was
formed the Eastern Branch.
There is a good social calendar
which includes a Trafalgar Night dinner. A bar is always
available together with light refreshments at a token price.
We have a lot of fun
and raise cash for the Central Fund plus donating to the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust, the Royal
Marines Benevolent Fund, the WRNS Benevolent Trust, the Royal
Navy & Royal Marines Children’s Fund as well as the local Sea
Scouts.
Anyone who is a Shipmate or Associate Shipmate is
eligible for help from the Association should they fall on
difficult times.
